Idli upma recipe, How to make idli upma

Idli upma is a spicy, crunchy and yummy recipe where idli crumbs are tossed in tempered onion mixture. This recipe can be prepared either with fresh idli or left over idli and this is my all time favorite recipe. I usually make extra idli for breakfast so that I can prepare idli upma for evening! So lets get to the making!

Ingredients

  • Idli – 4
  • Chopped Onion – 1 cup
  • Chopped green chili – 2
  • Channa dal – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – ½ tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves a spring

How to make idli upma with step by step images

  1. Crumble idli with fingers and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds after it splutters add urad dal and channa dal after it turns golden brown add curry leaves, chopped onions and green chili. Saute well.

  2. Now add turmeric powder and salt. Give it a quick stir and add crumbled idli to it and mix well. Put off the flame after everything is combined.
  3. Serve it hot!
