Wheat Idiyappam or Godhumai Idiyappam is a delicious and healthy recipe that can be prepared in jiffy. This simple and quick to make wheat Idiyappam/ Godhumai Idiyappam involves only handful ingredients. It is prepared with whole wheat flour, salt and water.
This wheat Idiyappam can be relished as breakfast, snacks or tiffin. It can be served with variety of sides; like coconut milk, grated coconut sugar, kadala curry or a simple chutney.
I love making dishes with Wheat flour as it very healthy compared to Maida/ All purpose flour. So I substitute wheat flour for Maida most of the times. Of course there will be compromise in taste and texture but definitely a healthy one.

How to make Wheat Idiyappam with step by step images
- Heat pan and roast wheat flour in low to medium flame until aromatic. This should take about 3 to 4 minutes. Make sure not to burn it. Transfer it to a bowl. Now to the roasted wheat flour add salt and water. Knead it to a dough with the water measurement mentioned above.
- Now take the murukku presser and fit the above shown disc template in it.
- Grease the steaming plate with oil then pinch a portion of wheat dough and place it in the murukku presser. Now rotate the handle and make layers one over the other in circular motion.
- Now heat water in a steamer and place the steaming plate with uncooked wheat idiyappam in it. Steam it for 4 to 5 mins only. When done remove it from steamer and serve it hot with chutney, kurma and coconut milk.
