This Chinese style green beans goes well with jasmine rice and fried rice too. I got to taste this dish from one of Chinese friend. After tasting it couldn’t resist asking for the recipe. I tried making it as per her recipe and instructions. It was so good just like her’s. Her recipe called for brown sugar. So I tried making it with brown sugar and it worked well. Do not substitute it with regular sugar. It will alter taste and look of the dish.
Ingredients to make Asian style green beans:
- Green Beans: Fresh green beans works best for this recipe for a tender crisp bite, so skip frozen green beans.
- Chilli flakes: Adds right amount of heat to the dish.
- Soy Sauce: Dark soy sauce for the recipe gives nice color.
- Garlic : It gives nice garlicky flavor to the dish.
- Oil: Peanut oil/ Sesame oil, both works well for the recipe. You could use any of those two oils.
- Brown sugar/ Honey: Little sweetness from honey/ brown sugar to balance out all the other ingredients.
- Sesame Seeds: Toasted sesame seeds adds crunch and taste to the dish.

How to make Asian green beans with step by step images
- Wash fresh green beans well snd chop the ends. Keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan, add finely chopped garlic, saute until aromatic and slightly brown. Now add green beans to it and cook it till al dente (just cooked). This should take about 1 or 2 minutes. Flip it often for even cooking and crisp texture.
- Now add chilli flakes, soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, brown sugar/ honey. Toss it for few seconds and put off the flame. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and serve it hot with cooked rice or fried rice.
