Balaleet/ Emirati sweet vermicelli and egg omelet is a very delicious sweet and savory breakfast consisting of sweetened vermicelli flavored with cardamom and saffron which is topped with savory omelette. Speaking of vermicelli here are few dishes with vermicelli:

Balaleet is a traditional Arab/ Emirati breakfast that can be easily prepared at home with handful ingredients in no time. This tummy filling breakfast is super popular/ traditional for its perfect balance of sweet snd savory. Eid is already there and I wished to post my very favorite/ very used to breakfast (I grew up in Dubai) in simple and easy method hope you guys will like it. So let’s get to the making of emirati sweet vermicelli and egg omelet !!
- 1. Vermicelli/ Semiya – 1 cup
- 2. Water – 1 cup
- 3. Saffron strands – few
- 4. Sugar – 2 tbsp
- 5. Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
- 6. Ghee – 1 tsp
- 7. Eggs – 2
- 8. Salt – to taste
- 9. Pepper powder – ¼ tsp
- 10. Oil – 1 tsp
- 11. Pistachios - 1 tbsp (chopped, for garnish)
- * 1 cup = 235 ml
- In a pan add ghee to it add vermicelli and roast few seconds, when they are roasted well add 1 cup water and saffron strands. Allow the mixture to boil/ cook with lid on in low to medium flame.
- This should take about 4 to 6 minutes. When the vermicelli is cooked and the water is completely dry add sugar and cardamom powder. Mix well. Initially the mixture will be wet, after a minute it will start getting dry, that’s when put off the flame. Keep it aside.
- Now in a bowl break 2 eggs to it add salt and pepper powder. Beat it well.
- Now heat a tsp of butter/ oil in a pan to it add the beaten eggs just like regular omelette.
- When one side is cooked flip it gently and cook the other side as well. When both sides are cooked put off the flame. Now place the cooked vermicelli onto a plate over which place the omelette. Garnish the vermicelli with some crushed pistachios. Serve it immediately.
