Chili fish or Air fryer chilli fish is a sweet, spicy and slightly tangy INDO – CHINESE appetizer/ side prepared by tossing boneless fish in saucy colorful veggies. Traditionally chilli fish is prepared with deep fried boneless fish, to keep it healthy and for a guilt free eating I tried preparing this chilli fish in air fryer and turned out great both in taste and look I must say.
This chilli fish can be served with dishes like these:

For this recipe I used tilapia fish fillets and it was just right for this recipe. Also I have used both green and red capsicum which is appealing for the eyes and tastes great as well, but you can use either one color or both according to your preference and availability. - 1. Fish fillet – 2
- 2. Ginger garlic paste – ½ tsp
- 3. Corn flour – 1 tbsp (heaped)

- 13. Water - ¼ + ¼ cup
- * 1 cup = 235 ml
- Wash the fish fillet and chop it into cubes as shown in the collage. Wash it thoroughly and transfer it to a bowl. Now to the fish fillet cubes add turmeric powder (never skip while cooking non veg specially sea food), salt, ginger garlic paste, soy sauce, corn flour, maida, pepper powder, 1 tsp oil and few tbsps of water.
- Mix everything well so that the fish is well coated in masala. Marinate the fish for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- After 30 minutes preheat air fryer at 400F for 5 minutes. When the air fryer is preheated brush a tbsp oil on the baking rack (prevents fish pieces from sticking) then place the fish pieces one by one evenly without overcrowding. Do not place really big chunks as the inside might not get cooked fully in the mentioned time. Brush a tbsp oil over the fish pieces as well. Now cook for 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes remove the rack from the air fryer and flip the fish pieces and cook for 2 more minutes again. After 2 minutes you will notice that the fish is evenly browned and cooked crisp. If you feel the inside is not cooked fully cook for 1 to 2 more minutes and it should be perfect. Remove the fish pieces from air fryer and keep it aside.
- In a bowl add corn flour and 1/4 cup water. Mix well and keep the mixture/ slurry aside.
- Chop onion, green capsicum, red capsicum into cubes and make slit in green chilli. Now heat a tbsp of oil in a pan to it add chopped onion cubes onion and finely chopped garlic and ginger/ ginger garlic paste. Saute well in high flame.
- Now add chopped white stalk of spring onion, chopped green and red capsicum cubes. Saute for few seconds. Now add salt, tomato sauce/ ketchup, red chili sauce and dark soy sauce. Mix well. Now add the cornflour mixture/ slurry and stir continuously. Now add the air fried fish pieces. Toss it well in the sauce. When the fish pieces are well coated in sauce add chopped green stalk of spring onion. Put off the flame and serve it hot with noodles or fried rice.
