Prawn vadai/ Era vadai is a delicious and easy to make lentil based deep fried snack that can be served as a snack/ appetizer or alongside rice for lunch. This prawn fritters recipe is a super simple and well known recipe by all that is the regular masala vada is given a little tweak by adding chopped/ ground prawn and there you go delicious prawn fritter ready to be served with tea for this cold weather. In this prawn fritters recipe I have used frozen small sized prawns but your could use big prawns/ small prawns that too fresh ones for best output. So let’s get to the making of era vadai!!

- 1. Channa dal- ½ cup
- 2. Prawn/ Era – ¼ cup (marinated in turmeric powder and chopped finely)
- 3. Green chilli - 1
- 4. Ginger – 1 big chunk

- Wash and soak channa dal in water for 3 hours.
- After 3 hours drain water from channa dal. In a blender add green chilli, saunf, cumin seeds, ginger and garlic. Grind it without adding any water. Now in the same blender add soaked chana dal and salt. Grind it corse without adding any water. Transfer it to a bowl.
- Now in the same blender add cleaned and washed prawns and blend it coarse. Alternatively you can chop it finely as well. Now to the ground chana dal mixture add chopped/ ground prawn, chopped onion, curry leaves and rice flour. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a pan. Now take small portion of the mixture, make it into round shape, then flatten it pressing it slightly with palm.
- Now drop it preheated oil one by one and cook in medium flame to get even browning and cooked inside. When done transfer it to a plate with paper towel and serve.
How to make Prawn vadai with step by step images

- After 3 hours of soaking drain water from channa dal and keep it aside. In a blender add green chilli, saunf, cumin seeds, ginger and garlic. Grind it without adding water.
- Now in the same blender add soaked chana dal and salt. Grind it corse without adding any water.
- Transfer the ground chana dal mixture to a bowl. Now in the same blender add cleaned and washed prawns and blend it coarse. Alternatively you can chop it finely as well. Now add chopped/ coarsely ground prawn, onion, curry leaves and rice flour. Mix well.
- Heat oil in a pan. Now take small portion of the mixture, make it into round shape, then flatten it pressing it slightly with palm.
- Now drop it preheated oil one by one and cook in medium flame to get even browning and cooked inside. When done transfer it to a plate with paper towel and serve it hot with chutney and tea.
