Varagu arisi sakkarai pongal/ Kodo millet sakkarai pongal prepared with kodo millet, moong dal, jaggery, flavored with cardamom and garnished with ghee fried cashews and raisins is a traditional sweet dish popular in South India and is often prepared during special occasions / festivals like navaratri, pongal, varalakshmi vratham etc.
Traditionally this sweet pongal is prepared with rice which I replaced with varagu arisi/ kodo millet for its health benefits and it tasted super yum. Yes kodo millet is a millet variety which is gluten free, easy to digest, a good source of vitamins rich in anti oxidants and dietary fiber. I had recently posted another recipe with this millet and you can check its recipe here Varagu thayir sadam.
Also I have already posted different types of sweet pongal like below:
So this post is here in blog for upcoming Navratri festival as this can be prepared for evening prasad/ for neivedhyam. If you missed yesterday Navaratri post it is here Green gram sweet sundal. So let’s get to the making!
