Broken wheat/ Cracked wheat/ Dalia/ Godhumai (Godhuma) rava whatever name called is a highly nutritious and healthy ingredient which can be consumed in many forms either sweet or savory just makes the dish tasty. Today we are here to look at a sweet dish payasam/ kheer which can be made for many festivals, but this recipe that I am posting here is a special one for upcoming celebrations “ Varalakshmi Vratham” and “Onam” Yes a little different payasam from the regular semiya, paal, sago or aval payasam which shall be enjoyed by your family. This payasam is little nutty and chewy due to cracked wheat texture and also holds a different aroma compared to other payasam. So lets quickly jump to the recipe!

- 1. Broken wheat/ Cracked wheat/ Dalia – ¼ cup
- 2. Water – 1 cup
- 3. Jaggery – ¼ cup
- 4. Coconut milk – 1/3 cup
- 5. Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
- 6. Ghee – 1 tbsp
- 7. Cashews – 5
- 8. Dry grapes – 4
- * 1 cup = 235 ml
- In a pressure cooker dry roast cracked wheat/ dalia in low medium flame for a minute. Make sure not to burn it as it will alter the payasam taste. When the rava looks roasted add water and pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles.
- When the pressure has subsided open the cooker and keep it aside.
- Now in a small pan add water (1/4 cup)and jaggery. When the jaggery is melted add the jaggery syrup, cardamom powder and coconut milk. Mix well and allow it to boil.
- After few boils switch off the flame
- Now in a small pan add ghee and fry cashews and dry grapes. Now pour this over the payasam and mix well. Now the payasam is ready for nivedhyam/ pooja!
