Jeera rice or Zeera rice is a very flavorful and quick to make simple rice dish that is popularly served in North India along with variety of side dishes. Jeera rice is one such easy to make rice variety that does not involve much of ingredients and we usually prefer having it instead of plain basmati rice. Yes I forgot to mention that this rice variety is prepared with basmati rice only as it enhances the flavors of this rice and makes it more delish. I have thinking over a year to post it in my blog and I am happy that I finally did it today. Many people prepare this rice variety in different methods but below is the method that I usually do at home. So lets get to the making!

- 1. Basmati rice – 1 cup
- 2. Water – 1 ½ cup
- 3. Jeer/ Cumin seeds – 1 ½ tsp
- 4. Cloves – 2
- 5. Bay leaf – 2
- 6. Cinnamon stick – ½
- 7. Oil/ Ghee – 1 tsp
- 8. Salt – to taste
- * 1 cup = 235 ml
- Wash and soak rice in water for 15 minutes. Heat oil in a small pan and add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon stick and cumin seeds. When it cracks and aromatic put off the flame.
- Now in a rice cooker or pressure cooker add soaked rice, enough water, salt and tempering. Mix well and allow it to cook till done. When the rice looks cooked fluff it gently and serve it hot with any spicy gravy of your choice!
