Ammini kozhukattai/ Spicy mini kozhukattai is a steamed savory dumpling prepared by tempering steamed rice flour balls. Yes as it sounds it is super duper simple to make. This mini kozhukattai is usually prepared during Ganesh Chaturthi along with other sweets and savory dishes for neivedyam/ prasad/ offering. The recipe to prepare these cute little dumplings is very simple and the first process of its preparation is same as paal kozhukattai recipe that posted day before yesterday. - 1. Rice flour – ½ cup (store bought)
- 2. Water – ¾ cup
- 3. Salt – very little
- 4. Oil – for greasing hands and plate
- 1. Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- 2. Urad dal – 1 tsp
- 3. Grated coconut – 3 tbsp
- 4. Dried red chilli – 2
- 5. Curry leaves – a spring
- 6. Hing – a pinch
- 7. Oil - 1 tsp
- * 1 cup = 235 ml
- Take water in a pan and add salt to it. When the water starts boiling reduce the flame and add rice flour in it and mix well without forming any lumps and put off the flame. It will form an improper dough leaving the sides of the pan. When the rice flour mixture is warm knead it with your fingers to form a perfect dough.
- Grease hands with oil pinch very small portion of dough and roll it into small ball. Continue making balls until all the dough is over.
- Grease the steaming plate with oil and place all the balls in it. Heat water in a pot. When the water starts boiling in steamer place the steaming plate with balls and steam it for 12 minutes. When done remove it from steamer and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, after it splutters add urad dal when dal turns golden brown add red chilli, curry leaves and hing. Now add grated coconut and mix well. Saute for few seconds and add cooked steamed mini kozhukattai and salt. Mix well, when everything looks combined put off the flame and serve it!
