Wheat kara paniyaram/ gunta pongalu is an instant and easy recipe prepared with wheat flour and rice flour. Wheat kara paniyaram is a yummy and tasty recipe holding very few basic ingredients available in the pantry. This paniyaram is my hubby’s favorite one and i usually serve it with green chilli chutney. This is again one such handy recipe when you run out of idli/ dosa batter or if you are looking for a quick and different breakfast then this paniyaram/ guntapongalu should be your choice. This recipe requires no grinding or pre preparation, hence can be easily made by beginner. So lets get to the making.

Ingredients
- Wheat flour- 1 cup
- Rice flour – ¼ cup
- Baking soda – a pinch
- Salt – to taste
- Water – to make batter
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal – 1 tsp
- Small Onion – 1
- Green chilli – 1
- Curry leaves a spring
- Oil – 1 tsp

How to make wheat kara paniyaram with step by step images
- Chop onions and green chili and keep it aside. Now heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, after it splutters add urad dal, after it turns golden brown add curry leaves, onions and green chili. Saute well. When the onion slightly changes its color put off the flame and keep it aside.
- In a bowl add wheat flour, rice flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well, add water gradually to make thick batter.
- When the onion mixture has cooled down add it to the batter and mix well.
- Now take kuzhi paniyaram pan smear some oil and add batter in each mould. Now cover it with lid and cook. when sides brown flip each one gently and cook till done. Now transfer it to a plate and serve it hot with chutney and sambar.
