Rava upma recipe, How to make upma, Breakfast recipes

When I hear the words rava upma I always find it hilarious and the credit goes to my hubby because when he made rava upma for the very first time and I packed it for lunch during my college days and i  with lot of expectations and hunger tried to taste it and the  spoon seemed not to come out of the upma ,Instantly my friends started commenting that we could use this for any strike that would happen in college in the future and the jokes about the upma continued for the whole recess. I m so fortunate to have him in my life  that he made attempt to fill my tummy .So lets make a good one now!

Ingredients

  • Semolina / rava – 1 cup
  • Small onion – 1
  • Tomato – 1/2
  • Curry leaves a spring
  • Mustard seed – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal – 1 tsp
  • Channa dal – 1 1/2 tsp
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Hing a pinch
  • Oil – 1 tsp

How to make rava upma with step by step images

  1. Chop the onions, tomato and ginger. Heat a pan with oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dhal and curry leaves.
  2. When dal turns golden brown add chopped ginger and onions. Saute till ginger gets aromatic and onions turn light brown. Now add tomatoes and salt ; saute till tomatoes get soft then add water to it and let boil.rava upma
  3. When the water starts boiling low the flame and add roasted rava /semolina slowly with constant stirring otherwise they will form lumps then cover it with lid and cook till done.
  4. Serve it hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
