In this recipe i have added very little quantity of mint and cilantro for flavors, also adjust the spice level according to your taste in the recipe. Make sure to cook rajma well before adding it int the rice and remember to retain its shape fully as it can collapse the texture of the rice.

How to make Rajma pulao with step by step images

  1. Wash and Soak rajma in water overnight. In a pressure cooker add soaked rajma, 2 cups water and salt. Pressure cook it for 3 to 4 whistles. The whistles might differ depending on the soaked hours. Make sure the rajma is not smashed as it will mess the pulao texture. Keep the cooked rajma aside.

  2. Wash and soak rice in water for 20 minutes.

  3. Now heat oil in a pressure cooker add whole spices, when aromatic add sliced onions, chopped coriander, mint and green chilli. Saute well. When it looks sauteed add ginger garlic paste and saute well till the raw smell goes.
  4. Now add cooked rajma, salt, red chilli powder, and garam masala powder. Saute it in oil for a minute.
  5. When everything looks sauteed add the soaked rice and water. (I used around 2 cups water) Mix well and check for salt. When the mixture boils put the lid and pressure cook for 2 whistles in medium flame. When the pressure has subsided allow it to rest for 5 more minutes. Now open the cooker. When the rice looks done take it from the sides using spatula and fluff it gently. Serve it hot with raita!
