Instant pot bread halwa, Instant pot Indian recipes

A delicious and mouthwatering halwa prepared by roasting bread cubes in ghee and simmering it in milk and sugar till ghee oozes out. This simple and quick to make dessert/ sweet can be easily made in INSTANT POT. Since the quantity of the halwa that I made was very less (as I had only 2 bread slices) the cook time was less as well, as the quantity increases the time will also increase accordingly. This is one of my favorite Ramadan recipes that I learned at my MIL home, thought to share it by preparing it in INSTANT POT. I have earlier posted a similar bread halwa recipe but this version I liked the most for its texture and of corse the taste, but I missed adding little khoya to this version which could have made this dish more delish. Also I used saffron strands for garnish, instead you add to the boiling milk as well in the halwa to enhance the taste. Oh yeah one more thing as well, at home they fry the bread in ghee till golden brown after which milk is added which I skipped instead roasted the bread cubes in little ghee as I am not that ghee person (seigh). This same recipe can be made in stove top too if you don’t Instant pot. So let’s get to the making!

How to make instant pot bread halwa with step by step images

  1. Take 2 bread slices and chop the brown edges. Now chop the white part of the bread slices into small pieces/ cubes.
  2. Switch on the saute mode in INSTANT POT and add ½ tbsp ghee.
  3. When the ghee is melted add cashews and fry them until light golden brown. When the cashews have changed color add the bread cubes in it and fry them until light golden brown. The aroma at this time is just amazing. When you keep stirring you can feel the bread cubes harden after which they will start breaking.

  4. Now at this stage add milk in it and mix well. When bread absorbs all the milk and you should see a ball of bread mixture.

  5. Now add sugar, cardamom powder and stir it well.
  6. For the final touch add 1 tsp ghee to it and mix everything well. When everything looks combined switch off the instant pot and your delicious bread halwa is ready in no time.
