Paal kozhukattai recipe, Easy milk kozhukattai

Paal kozhukattai is a traditional sweet recipe prepared by cooking steamed rice flour balls in milk, coconut milk and sugar. Paal kozhukattai is usually prepared for Ganesh Chaturthi for neivedhyam along with other sweets and savory. This recipe can be prepared with many variations and in many varieties but here I am sharing a simplest and my favorite making. For the below recipe you will need very few ingredients for its making and a simple preparation that will not take much time will result in yummy output. For this recipe I used store bought rice flour, so this recipe is instant and requires no grinding or soaking. So lets get to the making!

Ingredients
  1. 1. Rice flour – ½ cup (store bought)
  2. 2. Water – ¾ cup
  3. 3. Salt – very little
  4. 4. Oil – for greasing hands and plate
  5. 5. Milk – 1 ½ cup
  6. 6. Coconut milk – ½ cup
  7. 7. Sugar – 1/3 cup
  8. 8. Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
Note
  1. * 1 cup = 235 ml
Instructions
  1. Take water in a pan and add salt to it. When the water starts boiling reduce the flame and add rice flour in it and mix well without forming any lumps and put off the flame. It will form an improper dough leaving the sides of the pan. When the rice flour mixture is warm knead it with your fingers to form a perfect dough.
  2. Grease hands with oil pinch very small portion of dough and roll it into small ball. Continue making balls until all the dough is over.
  3. Heat water in a pot. Grease the steaming plate with oil and place all the balls in it. When the water starts boiling in steamer place the steaming plate with balls and steam it for 12 minutes. You can skip the steaming method and directly add the balls to boiling milk as well.
  4. When done remove it from steamer and keep it aside.
  5. Now in a pot/ pan add little water and milk. Mix well and allow it to boil. When the milk starts to boil add sugar and mix well.
  6. Now add the steamed balls and mix well. Allow it to boil well for 2 to 3 minutes. Finally add coconut milk and cardamom powder. Mix well and allow it to boil. (If you want the mixture to be thick mix little rice flour in little cold milk and add it to the boiling milk at this stage)
  7. When everything looks combined put off the flame and serve it hot or cold!
