Kheer from leftover cooked rice is a one such easy and super delicious dessert that can be prepared on day. Kheer fans like me just need a reason to make it so I cook extra rice to make possibly prepare kheer. Kheer is originally made using uncooked basmati rice which actually adds a pleasant flavor and aroma to the kheer. This kheer can be enhanced even more by adding either saffron strands, dried rose petals, rose water and nuts according to individual’s preference. So next time if you have leftover cooked rice try making kheer and your family will love it. For the below recipe I used regular cooked rice but if you have cooked basmati rice then its going to turn the kheer more delish. So lets get to the making!

- 1. Leftover cooked rice – 1 cup
- 2. Sugar – ½ cup
- 3. Milk – 2 cups
- 4. Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
- 5. Chopped nuts – 3 tbsp (almond, cashews, pistachios)
- 6. Saffron strands – few (for garnish)
- 7. Dried rose petals – 4 (for garnish)
- * 1 cup = 235 ml
- Heat a pan add leftover cooked rice, sugar and milk. Mix well and allow the mixture to simmer for 15 to 20 minutes in low to medium flame.
- When the kheer looks simmered add cardamom powder and nuts. Mix well. Reserve little nuts for garnish.
- Now simmer it for 2 minutes and put off the flame. When done serve the kheer cold after refrigeration for an hour.
How to make leftover rice kheer with step by step images
